I left Oak Point at 7 o'clock with my nephew, Bill, and a friend of his, Kevin, to go fishing for red fish or black drum. It was a great morning for fishing; Kevin landed the fish he is holding and I landed the one Bill is holding, all at the same time. I quickly snapped the photo and then we turned them loose. Red fish must be between 17" and 27" before you can keep them; these were way too big. We missed a total of six fish all together. They were just too big to control and got into the pilings and cut our line on barnacles.
Kevin was new to the river so I gave him the tour. We went to Rinker Canal and found these manatees at the end of the canal in 15 feet of water. I think the manatees would have played with us for ever, but we left after an hour or so. He also got to see some alligators up close and personal.
I took the cloud photo (top of page) just after we left the canal. I have never seen any thing like it before.
I told Kevin that I have nothing more to show him. I no sooner said that when the sheriff's patrol boat stopped us and did a vessel check. I passed with no problem.
Boy...what a day.
